I couldn't help but feel coach Gibbs's pain as our beloved Redskins fell 17-16 to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. It was a last second field goal that snatched victory out of their hands. A field goal that was, by Joe's own admission, his fault because he made an illegal timeout call that moved Buffalo fifteen yards closer to the goal, better enabling them to make the winning kick.
Like most of you, I have the greatest respect for our legendary Hall of Fame coach. And, like many of you, I too am getting impatient with all this losing. BUT, let me drop three little thoughts for you to think about:
First, don't get amnesia. Remember that this is the coach that led us in our glory days to three Super Bowl championships.
Second, it's no secret that under Dan Snyder we haven't won a championship yet! But we can all agree that there's no one more committed to bringing the Lombardi trophy back home to old DC. It is my humble opinion that we can count on Dan to make the right decision about who should coach the team when and if the time comes. With all that our guys have gone through lately, let's do our part to help them make one last big push. I tell you, when I was out there, there was nothing I appreciated more than when I knew you the fans had my back. Let's have their back on this final run.
Third, just a little reminder: Spurrier and Schotenheimer. Need I say more?!
At the very least I'll just ask you to show Joe Gibbs all the respect you can. He's earned it! He deserves it! And besides, I won two of those Super Bowl rings under him and I am proud of it! You know it, you were there!
There’s a reason why all of my friends and I consider you and Coach Gibbs our all time favorite Redskins. The goodness in y’all goes way beyond football…. We’ll never be able to thank you enough man.
